Abstract
Prolactin is responsible for milk secretion and released from the anterior lobe of hypophysis. This hormone is inhibited by dopaminergic agent, such as bromocriptine, which used for treatment of glactorrhea, prolactinoma, and suppression of
lactation.
This study compared the effect of bromocriptine and dihydroergocristine on suppression of lactation. Group I was give dihydroergocristine 10mg b. I. d. For 7 days and Group II was given bromocriptine 2.5mg b. i. d. for 14 days. Indications of
these
agents were consisted of preterm delivery, fetal death in utero. Low birth weight, severe nipple retration and suspected maternal hepatitis. There were no significant differences in maternal age, weight, height, gestational age, fetal weight,
clinical
symptoms and side effects between two groups. We concluded that dihydroergocristin(Unergol(r)) is useful drug for suppression of lactation due to its shorter duration of administration than bromocriptine.
